Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager

What You Will Do

Join the Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering (PIE) team and support Los Alamos National Laboratory’s scientific and national security mission as a Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager 3. You will provide technical and administrative oversight to ensure compliance with nuclear facility requirements, conduct of engineering (CoE), and configuration management (CM) program requirements. You will also assist the Group Leader with staffing plans, recruitment, training, and mentoring of engineering personnel.

This is a shift‑work position; evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and other non‑traditional schedules may be required.

• Ensure that technical deliverables comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and standards.
• Assign qualified engineering resources to support projects being designed and implemented within the facility.
• Develop all technical deliverables in accordance with the LANL Conduct of Engineering (COE) policies and procedures.
• Resolve engineering‑assigned issues on time and within the allocated budget.
• Forecast staffing requirements, manage budgets, monitor performance, and initiate personnel actions when necessary.
• Ensure safety processes, policies, and practices are followed by assigned personnel.
• Lead the delivery of nuclear engineering designs that meet customer needs and expectations in a cost‑effective, safe, and compliant manner.
• Communicate with all levels of internal and external customers to define and recommend cross‑organizational operational objectives.
• Assist the group leader in developing short‑term and long‑range plans and monitoring progress to achieve objectives.
• Maintain open daily communication with workers (including subcontractors) to encourage reporting of errors and issues.
• Lead process improvement efforts to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of policies and procedures.

  Prior experience managing technical teams and interfacing with other engineering disciplines.
• Professional License: A professional license (PE) or a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred but not required.
• DOE Order 426.2 Requirements:
  Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related science and 4 years of nuclear experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Demonstrated knowledge of LANL activities and nuclear operations, including project execution, procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.
• Understanding of U.S. Government contracting and procurement methods, specifically related to subcontract Architecture & Engineering agreements.
• Prior experience working for or with the DOE or DOD in an engineering capacity.
• Knowledge of the LANL Engineering Standards Manual, LANL Conduct of Engineering procedures, and DOE Orders and Standards for nuclear facility design, construction, and project management.

Work Location:

Onsite, Los Alamos, NM.

Work Schedule:

24/7 facility operations, primarily B Shift (Monday‑Thursday, 6 pm‑4:30 am) with potential swing/grave shifts, occasional weekend shifts, and on‑call assignments.
