Senior Design Engineers support the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team. The organization is looking to hire up to two engineers in electrical and civil/structural engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of engineering operations within the discipline, including conventional and unique structural design and analysis.
  • Lead projects and supervise the work of others, ensuring coordination of inter‑disciplinary activities.
  • Provide construction and project support, integrating construction activities with design work.
  • Identify and manage workflow improvements to meet customer needs.
  • Apply broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in complex engineering analyses.
  • Work independently as well as part of a team, utilizing engineering technology to accomplish work.
  • Use advanced engineering or technical equipment and software as required for the role.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college or university.
  • Minimum nine (9) years of practical work experience in the relevant discipline.
  • Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards and criteria pertinent to the discipline (e.g., ASCE, ASME, NQA‑1, IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC).
  • Proven knowledge of applicable codes and standards in common use at DOE and DOD facilities.
  • Extensive prior experience facilitating design package development and understanding of common engineering design document deliverables.
  • Experience with common computer‑aided drafting or markup software.
  • Experience with finite‑element analysis software such as RISA or similar, and familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Inability to obtain a Q clearance or college not ABET‑accredited is a deal‑breaker.
Education and Experience

Position typically requires a baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, along with practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry‑level requirements to ensure employees can successfully perform the job.
