* The Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions in support of the Laboratory's Plutonium Facility. This position supports the PIE Install Engineering Group. This group is responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program on Division projects. The program includes processes, standards, training, and qualifications that are generally applicable throughout the life cycle of a facility.

They exist to effectively manage risks and satisfy customer requirements in a safe, secure, cost effective, and environmentally responsible manner.

The Engineering Technologist is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full conformance with the Approved Project Documents by monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities. This is accomplished by providing input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to, and as-built configurations are verified.

Field Engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the constructor through approved procedures.

* At the Engineering Technologist 3 level, you will independently perform advanced field engineering assignments, evaluate field conditions, resolve technical and constructability issues, verify compliance with approved project documents, and coordinate solutions between design engineering and construction.

** Engineering Technologist 4 $ 117,200 - $195,400*
* In addition to the responsibilities described above, Engineering Technologist 4 serves as a senior technical resource with substantial independence and latitude. Engineer Technologist 4 leads complex and multidisciplinary field and engineering activities, resolves unique or unusually complex technical issues, determines appropriate technical approaches, provides technical direction and review of others' work, mentors less-experienced personnel, and develops or improves methods and approaches used to successfully execute construction projects.

* + Advanced knowledge of construction engineering principles, practices, and methods.

+ Experience reading, interpreting, and evaluating engineering design documents, drawings, specifications, and other technical documents for completeness, technical adequacy, and constructability.

+ Experience interpreting construction industry specifications, construction means and methods, and applicable national codes and standards.

+ Demonstrated ability to communicate engineering and technical solutions effectively, both verbally and in writing, with management, customers, engineering personnel, construction personnel, and craft personnel.

+ Experience conducting field verifications of construction work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and other applicable project requirements.

+ Demonstrated ability to collaboratively identify and resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field while coordinating between design engineering and construction.

+ Experience coordinating the technical resolution of field conditions, design discrepancies, constructability issues, and other construction-related technical matters.

+ Demonstrated ability to independently manage assigned field engineering activities and prioritize multiple assignments of varying complexity.

* In addition to the requirements above, qualification at the Engineering Technologist 4 level requires:

+ Expert-level knowledge of construction engineering principles, practices, and work control methods sufficient to provide senior-level technical support for complex facility and infrastructure construction activities.

+ Demonstrated experience independently planning and leading complex field engineering assignments, including establishing technical priorities and determining appropriate methods and approaches with minimal direction.

+ Advanced experience leading the resolution of significant, unique, and/or complex engineering and construction issues requiring in-depth evaluation of technical requirements, field conditions, constructability, and facility operational constraints.
