Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Radiation Transport Applications Deputy Group Leader (R&D Manager 3)
** What You Will Do*
* X Theoretical Design (XTD) Division seeks an enthusiastic and motivated R&D Manager to join our leadership team. The Radiation Transport Applications (XTD-RTA) Deputy Group Leader (DGL) will work closely with the XTD-RTA group leader to execute the group's mission, develop long-term strategies for the vitality of the group, provide guidance on significant technical efforts in the group, and substitute for the XTD-RTA group leader as needed.

The Deputy Group Leader role is generally expected to balance management and leadership responsibilities with continued technical contributions. The specific balance between these areas may be tailored based on the selected candidate's experience, interests, technical portfolio, and the needs of the group.

XTD-RTA stewards a broad set of radiation transport simulations, computational tools, and experiments related to nuclear weapon physics. We are a trusted group for radiation transport applications, combining simulation expertise with experimental understanding, diagnostic insight, and mission awareness. Our diverse portfolio includes assessing the impact of intrinsic radiation on weapons systems and personnel, modern diagnostics experiments and simulations, computational tool development, historical diagnostics analysis, and contributions to global security missions, criticality safety, and weapons effects efforts.

XTD-RTA is one of five groups within XTD Division.  XTD division members are the scientific stewards of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, applying theoretical and computational physics to the performance and safety of nuclear weapons. XTD scientists also contribute their expertise to the nation's foreign threat assessment, counter-proliferation and non-proliferation efforts through assessment of foreign devices, design of tools to address nuclear emergency response scenarios, and creation of solutions to inhibit nuclear proliferation.

In addition, XTD staff drive cutting edge advances in hydrodynamics, explosives science, astrophysics, high energy density physics, inertial confinement fusion, material aging, and advanced system development. Members of XTD use multi-physics codes, running on some of the world's fastest supercomputers, to create and analyze simulations of very complex systems. We work closely with many other organizations in a diverse variety of tasks, including experimental design and analysis, model development, code validation, and project leadership.
