Cost Accounting Manager

This Business Manager 4 role is a hands‑on cost accounting leadership position, responsible for LANL’s internal indirect cost allocation, rates, and related analysis within the Finance Institutional Services group.

• Serve as the cost accounting subject‑matter expert for internal indirect cost allocation, rate development and performance monitoring, compliance, and audit support. You’ll prepare and interpret complex financial analyses, produce technical reports, and present recommendations to stakeholders.
• Provide financial operations support across planning, budgeting, rate formulation and execution, and continuous improvement of internal controls and business processes.
• Partner closely with Business Services Directorate managers/analysts and federal counterparts, including frequent interaction with NNSA’s NA‑MB (Management and Budget Operations in Albuquerque) and periodic interaction with NA‑LA (Los Alamos Field Office).
• Manage, mentor, and train a team of about five professional business analysts, handling performance management, development, and workload/priorities.
• Finance/accounting depth:
  Extensive hands‑on experience with financial and cost accounting, indirect rates, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, and general business operations, plus the ability to perform and interpret complex analyses and write strong technical policy/process documentation.
• Leadership:
  Proven supervision/management experience in a large, complex organization, including performance management, employee development, succession planning, teamwork, and strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
• Organizational skills:
  Ability to independently set priorities for yourself and the team, manage projects, and deliver high‑quality work on time on complex business and financial assignments.

• Required:
  
  Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field and about eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
• Knowledge of federal appropriations law, Cost Accounting Standards, and the Federal Acquisition Regulation.
• Experience with Oracle Financials or similar enterprise financial systems.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field and/or professional certifications such as CPA or CMA.

The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
