ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Information Research Specialist to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory
! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.
- Track and coordinate boxes of documents prepared for offsite storage.
- Create and maintain spreadsheets of box barcodes and inventory data.
- Prepare boxes and materials for shipment, storage, or other approved handling.
- Upload box and inventory data into an online system.
- Communicate with an offsite storage vendor, LANL groups, and local project teams.
- Help review and coordinate work completed by student workers or project assistants, without serving as an official supervisor.
- Index reports onsite, including reports that may contain Controlled Unclassified Information.
- Review indexed records received from an outsourced indexing vendor for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Manage special records or archive collections and perform technical information research and retrieval both from a wide variety of collections to meet the information needs of Laboratory staff and external customers.
- Perform information research for content across diverse systems and retrieval and distribution of significant quantities of legacy and current classified records, archives, or technical reports.
- Develop and maintain specialized information retrieval strategies including interactions with professional networks and key contacts, capturing metrics to meet objectives of the archives or records management program, and participating in special projects associated with the access and usage of information through project lifecycle.
- Provide support to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) coordinator, responding to FOIA or other information release requests.
- Assist in development of organizational procedures and participate in inventories and audits.
- Distribute information to customers following well-established procedures.
- Resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways.
- Provide resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
- Contribute to the development of organization’s goals and objectives.
- Work under limited direction.
- Receive general instructions on new assignments.
- Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Determine approach to solutions, plan schedule and arrange own activities in accomplishing objectives.
- Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience; additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
- Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government‑issued clearance, if needed.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Accurate data entry experience; strong organizational skills.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and protocols.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel or similar tools.
- Ability to lift boxes up to 25 pounds.
- Experience with indexing, metadata entry, inventory tracking, or quality control, as well as experience following procedures for controlled information.
