Position: Windows Systems Administrator (Computing Systems Professional 2)

What You Will Do

The successful candidate will administer Windows systems across unclassified and classified networks, including Active Directory management, server maintenance, and end‑user support.

The role includes operating and maintaining a high‑profile license server required for key software functions and providing limited Linux support as needed.

What You Need
  • Experience administering Windows systems in complex environments.
  • Experience with Active Directory, server support, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to maintain software licensing services or similar service‑based systems.
Education/Experience

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting specialized servers, licensing systems, or equivalent high‑visibility services.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior staff in technical environments.
  • Familiarity with multi‑platform environments, including limited Linux administration and Windows‑focused operations.
  • Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.
Essential Job Functions

Lift 40 to 50 pounds.

Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The position commitment for this position is one year or two years.

Eligibility Restrictions

Due to federal restrictions, citizens of certain countries who are not lawful permanent residents are prohibited from accessing facilities that support national security and nuclear weapons production, including Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Clearance

Q clearance. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new‑employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment.

Internal Applicants

Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
