What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computing System Professional 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The successful candidate will administer Windows systems across unclassified and enclave networks, including Active Directory management, server maintenance, and end‑user support. The role includes supporting the Utilities and Institutional Facilities organization, which has several control systems such as building automation systems (BAS), equipment surveillance systems (ESS), and waste and water systems located at various locations across the lab.

Programmatic Services (ISD‑PS) is seeking an energetic and customer‑focused entry‑level Windows Server System Administrator. This team supports the Utilities and Institutional Facilities organization, which has several control systems such as building automation systems (BAS), equipment surveillance systems (ESS), and waste and water systems located at various locations across the lab.

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the selected candidate will provide Windows server support, troubleshoot and resolve network issues, and work with vendors to ensure the security and compliance of server and system platforms.

• Installing, configuring and troubleshooting virtual and physical servers
• Ability to troubleshoot user issues through on‑site and remote support
• Setting up and installing software
• Monitor applications for device downtime and respond to unresponsive devices
• Communicating technical information to both technical and non‑technical personnel

• Experience in Windows Server Support and administration, including Active Directory and Group Policy experience
• Troubleshooting and resolving network issues
• Communicating technical information to both technical and non‑technical personnel
• Ensuring reliability, security, and data integrity for managed systems
• Experience troubleshooting problems using hands‑on and remote tools
• Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally

Advanced vendor certification (Microsoft Windows, Networking, SCADA systems)

Position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• VMWare vSphere administration and implementation skills
• Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.

• Working with outside and internal auditors to ensure system compliance
• Experience managing and working with vendors to ensure the security and compliance of diverse server and system platforms
• Experience participating in security and compliance audits
• Experience solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment
• Extensive experience interacting with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner and giving presentations
• Monitor applications for device down time and respond to unresponsive devices

The work location for this position is hybrid and located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
