Overview

As part of the Pit Technologies division, the successful candidate will manage production planning and/or discrete projects that support division goals.

Project Leader 1 $ 78,700 - $125,100

As a Project Leader 1, you will help translate programmatic needs into executable project plans, working closely with internal customers, program managers, and multidisciplinary teams. This role is ideal for a developing project professional who enjoys organizing complex work, collaborating across organizations, and seeing projects through from concept to completion.

You will assist with or independently lead smaller projects while contributing to larger efforts under guidance. Your work will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, while aligning with Laboratory priorities for safety, security, quality, and operational excellence.

Project Leader 2 $ 94,500 - $154,600

In addition to the responsibilities described above, a Project Leader 2 independently manages moderately complex projects and assumes greater accountability for scope, schedule, and budget performance. At this level, you will lead mid-sized project teams, proactively manage risks, and serve as a primary point of contact for project status and issue resolution with senior managers and stakeholders.

You will integrate project execution with broader Laboratory commitments, negotiate resources and work packages with line and program managers, and exercise sound judgment under limited direction. This role is well-suited for an experienced project leader who can balance competing priorities while delivering high-impact results in a highly regulated environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trust, gain consensus, and resolve issues
  • Knowledge of project management principles, including planning, work breakdown structures, work packages, and baseline management
  • Understanding of manufacturing resource planning
  • Understanding of regulatory, safety, and Laboratory requirements

Additional Job Requirements for Project Leader 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Demonstrated experience independently managing moderately complex projects
  • Proven ability to lead mid-sized teams and integrate project work across multiple organizational priorities
  • Experience identifying project risks and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Ability to report project performance and issues to senior management under limited direction

Education/Experience at Project Leader 1: Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, or a related field from an accredited institution and 2 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience at Project Leader 2: Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, or a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with project management and data analysis tools (e.g MS Project and MS Excel)
  • Production plan management training or certification (e.g CPIMS)
  • Project management training or certification (e.g PMI PMP)
  • Experience coordinating with procurement, contracting, or external partners
  • Familiarity with laboratory, government, or federally funded project environments
  • Familiarity with manufacturing or production work planning and scheduling

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: As the program continues to grow into 24/7 operations, the candidate may be expected to support non-standard work week schedules (ie. evening shifts or weekends).

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
