What You Will Do
The Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an experienced Superintendent who is ready to be responsible for managing and overseeing some of the most sophisticated electrical and mechanical facilities and systems in the world.
As a Logistics Superintendent, you will be a part of a highly creative, diverse, fast‑paced, efficient team tasked with tackling the most fascinating and challenging problems in our laboratories’ facilities. Here at LANL we are always on the forefront, with industry‑leading examples of energy‑efficient and cost‑effective facilities. Our Superintendents are constantly challenged to drive continuous improvement, deliver the highest quality work on schedule while minimizing costs, and maximizing mission‑critical facilities capabilities.
This opportunity requires complete synergy with Facilities Management, Engineering, Planning, Project Management, Material Procurement and Union Craft personnel in the performance of facility preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and modification work activities. Depending on the assignment, a superintendent may be responsible for work activities at a Department of Energy Category II Nuclear Facility, a Non‑Nuclear Facility, or both.
Superintendents will also be responsible for maintaining required safety and security training, assuring safety and security compliance, and making safety and security an integral part of every task; this includes taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
An excellent maintenance supervisor must be reliable and have a great eye for detail. They must have proficient technical skills and knowledge of various crafts such as carpentry, plumbing, etc. Leadership and knowledge of administrative tasks such as scheduling are also essential. You will plan and supervise daily building or mechanical systems maintenance operations; plan and issue daily work assignments; monitor work in progress and check completed work;
you will also assist with difficult or unusual tasks and help resolve issues.
Job Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge and experience with construction management/supervision including a broad range of the following: systems engineering design and constructability, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, facility control systems and earned value management systems.
- In‑depth knowledge of interpreting various mechanical and electrical documents, specifications, drawings, and schematics.
- Thorough understanding and identifying workplace hazards and implementing safety policies and procedures to mitigate hazards.
- High level of experience reviewing project plans and coordinating with project team members to develop project cost estimates and execution schedules.
- Ability to track projects through all stages of execution and provide project updates when requested.
- Ability to identify problem areas that could lead to project impacts, track project impacts and to perform trend analysis to provide process improvement ideas to increase efficiency.
- Expert‑level knowledge of the lock‑out/tag‑out process.
Education:
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position.
Qualifications:
- Experience directing work and understanding of collective union bargaining agreements.
- Applicant should display a working knowledge and/or experience working in an operating hazardous facility.
- Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations and requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking job activities.
- Demonstrated skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports.
