What You Will Do

The Shift Operations Manager position at Los Alamos National Laboratory is responsible for managing and maintaining safe, secure, and compliant work environments at facilities enabling efficient and effective mission execution. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing day-to-day oversight of operations and management of moderate hazard nuclear facilities. This position will report to the TA55-OPS Operations Manager.

Shiftwork.

Safety/Security: Thorough knowledge/understanding of the requirements for Integrated Safety Management, Formality of Operations, and Safety Basis. Ability to serve as a member of the Facility Incident Command during emergency response.

Policy and Procedure: Thorough understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, lock-out/tag-out and facility policies and procedures.

Leadership: Ability to oversee a wide range of management functions, including directing the plan of the day/investigation, reporting processes regarding abnormal events, and small project management, etc.

Communication: Must have excellent written/oral communication skills to include the preparation of reports/presentations.

Management: Demonstrate experience managing day-to-day activities of organization deployed to the FOD (Maintenance, Engineering, Safety Basis, Operations, Radiation Protection, etc.).

DOE 426.2 Requirement: Requires a Bachelor's degree of Engineering or related Science and 4 years of Nuclear Experience.

Training/

Certifications:

Position will be expected to certify as an Operations Center Operator/Supervisor, complete the TA55 OM qualification plus site-specific training requirements.

Education/

Experience:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

• Background in DOE, Commercial, Navy or Navy Shipyard Nuclear Operations.
• Knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Facility conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations and quality assurance programs.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Work Schedule: This position will require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a rotating shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
