What You Will Do
The Detonator Production Division (DP-DO) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated First Line Manager (FLM) to support important national security missions in the Manufacturing Operations group (DP-3). The Manufacturing Manager 3, FLM will report to the Group Leader and will have the responsibility, authority, and accountability to execute work that supports programmatic milestones and deliverables while setting the standards for professional behavior and operational effectiveness for the team.
The FLM will provide management and leadership by leading day-to-day operations for a team of approximately 20-25 talented Technicians and Shop Floor Control Specialists executing manufacturing operations to produce WR (War Reserve) detonators and cables.
The DP Division is the premier Production Agency (PA) assigned to produce War Reserve (WR) detonators for our nation's nuclear stockpile security mission. The Division is part of LANL's Weapons Production Directorate. DP is comprised of a team of motivated, highly skilled technical and operational support staff working in an integrated format. The organization is centered on high‑rigor manufacturing operations to produce precise, safe, and reliable WR products.
DP partners closely with customers and stakeholders (such as the National Nuclear Security Administration [NNSA]), design agencies (LANL, Sandia National Lab [SNL], and Lawrence Livermore National Lab [LLNL]), and LANL program management organizations to deliver on challenging national security objectives. DP upholds vigorous teamwork, personal integrity, respect in the workplace, and continuous improvement in operations, technical excellence, safety, and security.
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and knowledge by providing effective personnel management/leadership while leading high‑fidelity, high‑consequence detonator production operations. The operations include high explosives (HE), classified security assets, Vault Type Room (VTR) management, and electro‑explosive assembly operations while upholding the highest quality directives for nuclear weapons components.
Further, the successful candidate will uphold the highest standards for a respectful workplace, employee development, work control, safety, security, quality excellence, teaming, and customer service. Leadership: Demonstrated accomplishments applying leadership values and behaviors while guiding high‑consequence project activities that successfully met deliverables and major milestones through team building, sound coaching practices, successful staff development, implementation of HPI and Con Ops principles, and fostering a continuous learning environment.
Management: Record of accomplishment leading technical personnel in a challenging production manufacturing environment. Ability to provide personnel with effective career coaching and career development.
Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated technical accomplishment in producing precision, high‑consequence products coupled with a strong understanding of the underlying materials, processes, manufacturing methods and quality considerations to uphold reliable and predictable manufacturing operations. Demonstrated ability to implement manufacturing process improvements in a disciplined, orderly approach.
