What You Will Do

The Biochemistry and Biotechnology Group (B-TEK) in the Bioscience Division is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic post-bachelor candidate interested in performing research within the facets of mass spectrometry – especially proteomics, metabolomics, and lipid omics. The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists, technicians, and students on multiple projects ranging from characterizing chemical exposure to understanding biological effects of chemical and non‑chemical stressors, and developing bio‑sample analysis including method development, data acquisition, and data processing.

The candidate will be expected to contribute to different projects as needs arise and will be responsible for conducting research, reporting results to the team at weekly meetings, and, through on‑the‑job training, preparing peer‑reviewed publications, grant proposals, and attending seminars to broaden knowledge and network within LANL.

What You Need Minimum

Job Requirements
  • General background in biology, chemistry, or analytical sciences.
  • Ability to comfortably work independently and as part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and effectively execute new laboratory skills.
  • Demonstrated competency with computers and software applications for word processing, data processing, and data visualization.
  • Ability to maintain and record work performed, data obtained, and to write and follow detailed protocols.
  • Ability to understand and present research results clearly and succinctly in both written and oral formats.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week on a consistent schedule.
  • Ability to manage time and see tasks to completion.

Certifications:

None
Education/Experience
: A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, analytical science, or a related technical field obtained at the time of hire or within the past three years; candidates should not yet be enrolled in a graduate program.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience with analytical techniques, particularly mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography.
  • Demonstrated experience with biological sample preparation leading to quantitative or qualitative results.
  • Knowledge of coding languages such as R or Python, other statistical data processing packages, or mass spectrometry data packages.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills through presentations at regional or national conferences and peer‑reviewed publications; desire to report work in peer‑reviewed publications and assist in the grant proposal process.
Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite, located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
