What You Will Do
The Biochemistry and Biotechnology Group (B-TEK) in the Bioscience Division seeks a motivated, enthusiastic post‑master's candidate to conduct mass spectrometry research, focusing on proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics. The candidate will collaborate with scientists, technicians, and students on projects that include characterizing chemical exposure, understanding biological effects of stressors, and developing biosample analysis methods. Responsibilities involve conducting experiments, collecting and processing data, reporting findings at weekly team meetings, and contributing to peer‑reviewed publications and grant proposals.
The role encourages participation in seminars, networking events, and other LANL functions to broaden expertise.
Job Requirements
- Background in biology, chemistry, or analytical sciences
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and computational workflow development
- Familiarity with good laboratory practices and experiment design
- Ability to maintain detailed records, produce written reports, and follow protocols
- Clear oral and written communication skills
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team
- Availability for at least 40 hours per week
- Strong time‑management and task‑completion skills

Education/Experience- Master’s degree in an accredited institution (or equivalent) earned within the last three years
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
- Expertise in analytical science and mass spectrometry
- Broad knowledge of liquid chromatography and biomolecule analysis (proteins, lipids, metabolites)
- Experience developing software and computational tools for biological and chemical research
- Proficiency in machine learning techniques and programming languages such as Python or R
- Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting mass spectrometers, including Thermo Fisher Orbitrap platforms
- Knowledge of mass spectrometry data packages
