What You Will Do

The Biochemistry and Biotechnology Group (B-TEK) in the Bioscience Division seeks a motivated, enthusiastic post‑bachelor candidate to conduct research in mass spectrometry, focusing on proteomics, metabolomics, and lipid omics. The candidate will work with a team of scientists, technicians, and students on projects ranging from characterizing chemical exposure and understanding biological effects of chemical or non‑chemical stressors to developing bio‑sample analysis, including method development, data acquisition, and data processing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and reporting results at weekly team meetings.
  • Participating in collaborative projects as needed.
  • Receiving on‑the‑job training and opportunities to contribute to peer‑reviewed publications and grant proposals.
  • Attending seminars and other LANL functions to broaden knowledge and network.
What You Need
  • General background in biology, chemistry, or analytical sciences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and execute new laboratory skills.
  • Competency with computers and software for word processing, data processing, and data visualization.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, write precise protocols, and present results clearly in written and oral formats.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week on a consistent schedule.
  • Strong time‑management skills and ability to see tasks to completion.
Training/Certifications

None required.

Education/Experience
  • Either a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, analytical science, or a closely related field earned at the time of hire or within the past three years.
  • Not currently enrolled in a graduate program.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with analytical techniques, particularly mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography.
  • Experience with biological sample preparation yielding quantitative and qualitative results.
  • Knowledge of coding languages such as R or Python, statistical or mass spectrometry data‑processing packages.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills demonstrated through presentations at conferences and peer‑reviewed publications; interest in publishing and grant proposal work.
