Job Description & How to Apply Below
** What You Will Do*
* Work at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at LANL (MPA-MAGLAB) to conduct research on high-entropy materials. An emphasis will be on the fundamental science of point defects in fusion-relevant high-entropy
alloys and the nature of magnetic order in disordered systems. The research will focus on the use of resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) to extract symmetry-resolved information on point defects and examine the elastic
constant tensor as a function of temperature and magnetic field. RUS will be combined with dilatometry and heat capacity to examine anharmonicity, phase transitions, and magneto elastic phenomena. Work will involve
collaborations with an interdisciplinary group of experimentalists and theorists spanning physics, chemistry, and materials science.
** What You Need*
* ** A background in experimental condensed matter or material science is required.
Experience with performing measurements in cryogenic/high-magnetic field environments and/or expertise in elastic, thermoelastic, or magneto elastic phenomena is preferred.*
* ** Minimum
Job Requirements:
*
* +
** Experience with experimental research in condensed matter or material science*
* +
** Ability to work independently, creatively, and in a team environment*
* +
** Must have excellent written and communication skills in English*
* ** Desired
Qualifications:
*
* Education:
A Ph.D. in Physics or Material Science is required. The candidate must be within 5 years of completion of Ph.D. at time of being proposed for review by the committee and will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.
** Note to Applicants:*
* Notes to Applicants:
In addition to applying online, please submit a cover letter addressing how you meet the required and desired skills, a CV including a list of peer-reviewed publications and talks, and the names of three references. It is preferred that the CV
contains the following information: educational background, degree dates, GPA with scale, experience, competitive honors, relevant extracurricular activities, invited presentations, grants, and patents/publications. For further information, please contact Chris Mizzi (mizzi) and Boris Maiorov (maiorov).

** Where You Will Work*
* Located in Northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by
ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure,
health, and global security concerns. Our generous benefits package includes:
+ PPO or High Deductible medical insurance with the same large nationwide network
+ Dental and vision insurance
+ Free basic life and disability insurance
+ Paid childbirth and parental leave
+ Award-winning 401(k) (6% matching plus 3.5% annually)
+ Learning opportunities and tuition assistance
+ Flexible schedules and time off (PTO and holidays)
