What You Will Do
The Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate. The position will include developing multi-modal deep learning models for subsurface geoscience applications including seismic and geodetic data. The work will involve developing and testing state-of-the‑art machine learning models. Experience in deep learning model development and subsurface geoscience research is necessary. The successful candidate will collaborate with scientists at LANL and with external academic partners.
The term of the appointment is two (2) years, with the option to extend to a third year depending on performance and funding availability. The position is on-site in Los Alamos, NM.
Minimum
Job Requirements:
- Research experience in deep learning model and applications in subsurface geoscience
- Publication record including subsurface geoscience and deep learning applications
- Proficiency in programing languages such as Python, C/C++
- Experience using supercomputing and HPC resources
- Communication skills as evidenced by oral presentations at conferences
- Experience working on interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to obtain Q level clearance, which usually requires U.S. citizenship
A Ph.D. degree in a STEM field related to geodesy, seismology, subsurface geoscience, applied mathematics, computer science, physics, or other related fields. For a postdoctoral appointment the candidate must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment or must be within five years of completion of the Ph.D.

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Clearance: QPosition will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
