Position: Maintenance Support Specialist 1/2

What You Will Do

The Office of Improvement (MSS-OOI) conducts annual Conduct of Maintenance assessments to improve institutional maintenance programs. This position supports those assessments on both nuclear and non‑nuclear facilities at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The role is filled at either the Maintenance Support Specialist 1 or 2 level, with additional responsibilities for the higher level.

Maintenance Support Specialist 1

Provide technical support for Conduct of Maintenance assessments across all facilities. Assist with document control, field walk‑downs, maintenance observations, assessment interviews, and report preparation. Coordinate with DOE, engineering, maintenance personnel, and facility managers to ensure assessments align with P950, DOE O 433.1b, DOE O 430.1b, and applicable codes.

Maintenance Support Specialist 2

All Specialist 1 duties plus

  • Interpret government regulations and laboratory policies to ensure compliance.
  • Develop, monitor, and validate accuracy of audit performance data and statistical reports.
  • Recommend process improvements and develop final assessments and recommendations.
  • Perform or assist in periodic reviews to verify implementation of maintenance programs.
  • Serve as liaison between the laboratory and governmental agencies.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Entry‑level knowledge of maintenance documents, government and industry regulations, and maintenance assessment procedures.
  • Ability to prepare, present, and write technical reports.
  • Experience with document control and record‑management systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently.
Education and Experience

Specialist 1:
Minimum 2 years of related experience or equivalent education.

Specialist 2:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience or equivalent education.

Desired Qualifications
  • LANL Assessment Training qualifications.
  • Experience with CMMS software such as Asset Suite.
  • Experience running reports from databases.
Work Location

Onsite in Los Alamos, NM.
