What You Will Do
Join a world‑class research and development institution as the Nuclear and Radiochemistry (C‑) Deputy Group Leader. In this role, you will provide day‑to‑day leadership and operational oversight, reporting to the Group Leader; partner in leading technical and programmatic activities; champion group capabilities and personnel; and oversee compliance in safety, security, environmental management, facilities, finances, and HR. The position is part‑time (50–75%) with two DGL positions available.
AboutC‑
C‑ about 100 permanent staff plus additional researchers supporting critical missions in bioassay, nuclear forensics, nonproliferation, safeguards, treaty monitoring, and weapons programs. Our diverse capabilities include radiochemistry, actinide chemistry, radiometric analyses, materials characterization, mass spectrometry, nuclear chemistry/physics, and spectroscopy.
MinimumJob Requirements
- Strong record of technical achievement, as demonstrated through publications, reports, presentations at national and international meetings, engagement in sponsor meetings or workshops, and/or leadership of large projects in analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, mass spectrometry, radiometric counting, spectroscopy, or actinide science.
- Experience operating or managing facilities that have chemical and/or radiological hazards and/or limited security areas.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and respond to new funding opportunities, program development, and assemble effective project teams across disciplinary and organizational boundaries.
- Strong record of technical leadership and management including technical decision‑making, supervision and personnel management, employee development and mentoring, team building, commitment to diversity in the workplace, and resource management including finances.
- Must include a CV with a publication list and a cover letter addressing how your background fulfills the job requirements and desired qualifications.
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.
Position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and five years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in chemistry, physics or a related field.
Desired Qualifications- Demonstrated working knowledge of LANL policies in integrated work management, safety, security, quality, environment, finance, and human resources.
- Experience in line management or program management.
- Experience working in nuclear forensics, nuclear nonproliferation, treaty monitoring, or weapons program areas.
- Active DOE Q clearance.
Position will be cleared to Q level. Selected applicants will undergo a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government. The role requires U.S. citizenship. Additional access authorization may be required for certain classified information, which is a decision of the Federal Government.
Work LocationThe work location for this position is onsite, Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
