* ** As a part of the Fire and Implications for Resilient Environments (FIRE) Team within the Earth and Environmental Science Division, you will be supporting wildland fire modeling projects using R&D 100 winning tools: FIRETEC and QUIC-Fire. This role is focused on supporting numerous wildland fire projects. Your responsibilities include:*

** Support the development, testing, and distribution of QUIC-Fire and its graphical user interface*

** Feature development*

** Debugging*

** Maintain and support user community*

** Collaborate closely with internal and external scientist, researchers, and technicians*

** Run fire and disturbance simulations for ongoing projects*

* ** Minimum
Job Requirements:
*
* + Background in CS, mathematics, physics, or other STEM fields
+ Programming experience
+ Python, Conda, Git a plus
+ Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
+
Experience with technical writing or documentation
+ Contribute to a healthy and inclusive work environment
Education/
Experience:
+ Must have earned an Associate's or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (or international equivalent) within the last 3 years in an appropriate field
+ Must have graduated with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)

Qualifications:

* + Ability to adapt to new requirements for projects and be flexible to learn new areas of research as needed
+ Graphical user interface development experience
+ GIS experience
+ Basic understanding of wildland fire dynamics
+ Computational modeling experience
+ HPC experience
+ Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance (usually requires US citizenship)
Work Location:
Onsite/Hybrid:
This position is located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement (partially onsite/partially offsite) from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be regularly required. Hybrid is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice. Some interns may work a 9/80 schedule at the discretion of management and in accordance with the Student Programs Office guidebook ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).
