What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the SCIF Security Specialist Level 2 or Level 3, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
SCIF & SAPF Operations (SSO-2), within the Special and Sensitive Operations (SSO) Division is seeking a Security Specialist 2/3 to provide security support for Special Access Programs (SAPs) and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs). As a Security Specialist you will utilize your knowledge of applicable DOE-IN, NNSA, and/or LANL safeguards and security policies and procedures, assess operations, interpret policies, and make recommendations for operational and programmatic improvements.
This position involves providing internal and external customer service with a high degree of consequence of error to ensure safety and security of national security interests and facilities. This position will report to the SSO-2 Group Leader and receive direct supervision and instruction for applicable topical areas.
This position will require occasional travel and working non-standard hours. You may be required to be on-call for duty at minimum of one week each month (24/7 including holidays). When on-call, you must be able to respond to the worksite within one hour.
SCIF Security Specialist 2 ($85,900-$139,900)
- Manage daily SCIF/SAP security operations such as information security or classified materials control, access control operations, personnel security functions, security integration, security audits and assessments, and intake/tracking of security inquiries.
- Interpret and apply DOE-IN, NNSA, and/or LANL safeguards and security policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues related to SCIF/SAP security operations where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
- Provide resolutions to a diverse range of security problems which require data analysis and evaluation.
- Plan and implement schedules to meet objectives.
- Implement corrective actions at the direction of the SSO or PSO in response to identified security deficiencies and assess effectiveness of solutions.
- Experience working in SCIF environments during renovation or construction, with a solid understanding of security requirements and access controls.
- Provide comprehensive customer service to internal customers.
- Coordinate the acquisition, installation, or replacement of equipment designed to increase efficiency of security operations.
SCIF Security Specialist 3 ($104,100-$172,200)
- Broad and in-depth knowledge of applicable DOE-IN, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and LANL safeguards and security policies and procedures, with the ability to interpret and apply them and make recommendations for operational improvements.
- Advanced customer service to internal and external stakeholders and requires an in-depth technical understanding of security requirements, organizational objectives/missions, and the ability to effectively negotiate and navigate challenges to achieve the security and programmatic needs of the mission.
What You Need
Minimum
Job Requirements:
Security Experience
Technical experience in one or more of the major security areas: information security, physical security, computer security, personnel security, classified matter management protection and control (CREM, documents, parts), accountable classified matter management (ACREM, accountable documents), SCIF operations, personnel security, security assessments, and internal tracking of security assessment findings.
DOE Experience
Familiar with DOE Orders and LANL requirements as related to Safeguards and Security Programs and experience in DOE security audits and inspections.
Knowledge and experience with DOE orders and Intelligence Community Directives regarding SCIF operations.
Communication
Ability to prepare and present security and safeguards reports to internal and external customers at all levels. Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively interact and collaborate with colleagues, as well as internal and external customers. Proven ability to operate in a team environment.
Security Technical knowledge
Professional/specialized knowledge and experience in one or more of the major security areas: physical security, SAP operations or other high-security activities. Advanced knowledge and experience with security functions such as identification of vulnerabilities and assessment of risks. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with security functions requiring extensive documentation and data management. Experience conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security and safeguards.
Auditing and Assessment
