Position: WRS-WMT Group Leader (R&D Manager 4)

What You Will Do

Are you looking for an opportunity to contribute as a Group Leader? Are you interested in making a difference in the Weapons Program and leading cutting‑edge technologies? If you answered "yes" to these questions, you are encouraged to learn more about this opportunity as the Group Leader within the Weapons Research Services (WRS) Division's Weapons Mission Technology (WMT) group. In this role you will provide leadership and management for the technical and administrative work in the WMT group.

You will collaborate with the PRIDE Program Manager to provide strategic oversight for the PRIDE program, ensuring alignment with broader laboratory objectives and mission priorities, without direct involvement in day‑to‑day program operations. Your responsibilities include overseeing the maintenance, enhancement, and implementation of new major weapons design and engineering software tools; contributing to the development of objectives and principles for managing weapons technologies;

leading teams of solutions architects and software scientists that support implementation and maintenance of mission software tools; facilitating resource allocation, supporting strategic decision‑making, and ensuring program integration with divisional goals.

What You Need

Minimum

Job Requirements:

  • Software – Advanced understanding of software development principles, implementation of commercial off‑the‑shelf packages, database administration, system administration, data management, and security. Experience with mission application tools that interface with NNSA partners and the ability to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions related to mission technologies.
  • Classified Systems – Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining classified systems and platforms.
  • Project Management – Advanced experience providing strategic direction in the formulation of technical solutions and leading complex projects from inception through implementation, coordinating between scientific users, technical teams, and other stakeholders. A record of successfully completed projects on time and within budget.
  • Program Management – Proven experience working with federal program managers to advocate for funding and manage scope tied to funding to support tools and services needed by mission organizations.
  • Mentoring/Leadership – Leadership experience successfully leading and mentoring junior staff.
  • Education/Experience – A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and eight (8) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in physics, engineering, mathematics, computer science or related technical area
  • Experience working within LANL's Weapons Programs
  • Practical knowledge of LANL business systems, operational and work processes, administrative practices and procedures, and key Laboratory points of contact
  • Experience and knowledge in the field of cyber security
Location

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
