Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform the full range of Radiation Control Technician support activities and serve as the primary point of contact for planning and coordination of resources.
- Ensure resolution of conflicting demands in highly dynamic and challenging conditions, acting as a strong tactical decision maker.
- Ensure that radiological controls are correctly applied for radiological work, including high‑hazard work, by serving as an authorized subject matter expert for development of radiological work control packages (RWCPs).
- Provide coordination of work‑area resources as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Fulfill customer radiation protection requests while ensuring established RP‑1 priorities are followed.
- Provide technical supervision, including responsibility for reviewing technical work.
- Work effectively with customers and supervision to resolve problems, including escalation beyond the RCT4’s ability to resolve.
- Develop solutions to complex problems that require ingenuity, creativity, and independence.
- Manage assignments that may be broad or narrowly focused and require substantial independent effort.
- Coordinate and participate in developing final products in collaboration with the requestor.
- Demonstrate excellence in safety and compliance to coworkers and customers.
- Understand that error may lead to serious radiological safety events or non‑compliance with 10
CFR
835, potentially resulting in Laboratory fines under the Price‑Anderson Act.
- High school diploma and at least 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (required).
- U.S. Citizenship required (federal contract security requirement).
- Ability to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance (required).
- Ability to work onsite.
- Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.
- Essential Job Functions:
- Lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50–100 pounds with assistance or engineering controls.
- Maintain required vision and hearing (reading, peripheral, depth perception; 500–3000 Hz).
- Perform physical tasks such as sitting, crawling, standing, walking, running, climbing, and reaching overhead, horizontally, and down; work in demanding environments.
- Use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to six feet.
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and drug/background testing required.
- Ability to anticipate problems and handle unforeseen issues.
- Work involves moderate physical demands such as lifting instruments and wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection.
- Work may be outdoors and may require scheduling outside regular work hours.
- Requires extensive experience supporting radiological activities and facilities, applying operational health physics.
- Onsite location in Los Alamos, NM.
- May require 24/7 shift coverage; eligible for shift differential pay.
- Per‑Diem eligible.
- ALDPI–TA‑55 work location.
