POSITION SUMMARY
The Northern New Mexico Integrated Security (N2
MIS), located in northern New Mexico, provides a professional, highly trained protective force that safely secures special nuclear material, people and other critical assets for the Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration and the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES- Analyze, design, develop, execute, and evaluate training classes and courses. Provide classroom instruction using lesson plans, visual aids, demonstrations, and practical applications in accordance with the approved training program and/or verbal guidance.
- Strictly accountable for the appropriate use and operation of live fire and simulator facilities, as well as the accountability of weapons, munitions, and equipment in accordance with DOE, NNSA, LANL and N2
MIS policies, procedures and requirements. - Prepare, review, and revise lesson plans to include training aids, student handouts, and evaluation material based on Task Analysis, DOE, NNSA and LANL directives, standards, criteria, and associated multi‑media reference material. Review N2
MIS orders and procedures with respect to post and patrol procedures and revise lesson plans accordingly. - Perform firearms instructor duties to include Range Officer and Range Safety Officer. Prepare, conduct, and evaluate performance‑oriented training executed on the range. Conduct, supervise, and document required semi‑annual weapons qualifications for the protective force. Conduct remedial and refresher training as required.
- Evaluate performance using established knowledge and performance‑based evaluations including Limited Scope Performance Tests (LSPT). Document completed training and results in accordance with established procedures. Conduct performance counseling.
- Maintain qualifications and certifications as required by DOE, NNSA, LANL and N2
MIS directives for the current position assigned, to include Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Advanced Firearms Instructor, and Tactical Response Force Instructor. - Meet 10 CFR 1046 SPO III requirements, to include mental alertness and reliable judgement, acuity of senses and ability of expression sufficient to allow accurate communication by written, spoken, audible, visible, or other signals, and motor power, range of motion, neuro‑muscular coordination and dexterity.
- Perform controller, observer, and evaluator duties as well as other support to exercises.
- Support Force‑on‑Force (FoF) activities as directed.
Education and Experience
- Work is performed onsite; the position is not remote.
- BS or BA degree in an appropriate discipline or equivalent combination of academic, military and/or law enforcement training or a minimum of five (5) years of Protective Force experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, effective communication skills and knowledge of security practices.
- Must be current in Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration and N2
MIS medical, physical fitness and weapons qualifications. - Must be capable of meeting the job‑related physical requirements and provide the direction and support necessary in emergency situations.
- Currently have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance. Obtaining this clearance requires US citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral, written and interpersonal communications.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Must have, or be able to obtain and maintain, all instructor certifications required to conduct Protective Force Training.
- Must be able to pass the Advanced Readiness Standard as specified in 10 CFR 1046: one mile run qualification in eight (8) minutes thirty (30) seconds or less; forty‑yard dash, from the prone position, in eight (8) seconds or less.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid NM driver’s license.
- Physical demands of this position may vary from situation to situation.
- Required fitness standards are contained in 10 CFR 1046. Physical work demands are considered medium with lifting requirements up to 50 pounds.
