Software Developer 3 – Strategy CMC / Red Hat Open Shift

Compa Industries is seeking qualified candidates for a Software Developer 3 position supporting Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

Salary: $65/hr–$75/hr
Location: Hybrid
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
Clearance: Not required; active or prior DOE Q Clearance is preferred
Per Diem/Relocation: Approved for those that qualify
Assignment Duration: 1 year with possible extension/conversion
Number of Openings: 1

Mandatory Experience Requirement – Read Before Applying

Applicants must demonstrate experience with:

  • Relational database development with SQL, including PostgreSQL or similar enterprise database platforms.
  • Content Management Systems (CMS/SharePoint) and modern web interface development (UI/UX).

Candidates who do not possess strong full-stack web development experience with these core technologies will not be considered.

Impact

As a Software Developer 3, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing enterprise software solutions that support mission-critical business operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Working within the Project Analytics Information Technology (PA-IT) organization, you'll collaborate with customers, technical teams, and business stakeholders to build scalable web applications, modernize existing systems, and improve operational efficiency. Your technical expertise and leadership will help shape future application architecture while mentoring teammates and driving continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain enterprise software applications to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Gather customer requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Develop system integration, conversion, and implementation plans.
  • Create technical documentation and obtain approval for software designs and programming changes.
  • Develop reports and implement reporting solutions for business users.
  • Lead and facilitate meetings, workshops, demonstrations, and technical presentations.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to end users during implementation and production support.
  • Research emerging technologies and recommend improvements to software development standards and processes.
  • Utilize Agile and Scrum methodologies throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Perform risk management, capacity planning, and infrastructure planning activities.
  • Partner with business analysts, database administrators, system administrators, and customers to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership across project teams.
  • Ensure compliance with Laboratory safety, security, and information systems policies.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive work environment.

  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, tools, source control, and application lifecycle management.
  • Experience with software integration, testing, and deployment.
  • Knowledge of database design and management.
  • Ability to work directly with customers to gather requirements and deliver technical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
