DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Foothill College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to teach in the Media Studies program. The successful candidate will teach courses emphasizing media analysis, history, theory, criticism, and cultural studies, as well as foundational media production courses that support the department's Film, Television, and Electronic Media degree and its transfer-focused mission. The program prepares students for transfer to California State University programs and for entry-level media-related fields.

Secondary responsibilities may include providing faculty input on facilities and equipment planning, including recommending purchases and assisting with inventory processes; participating in departmental budget planning in collaboration with division leadership; and contributing to grant‑writing efforts and supporting the implementation of funded initiatives. The faculty member will also help foster a vibrant learning community through outreach and partnerships across campus, within the local community, and with media-related academic and technical industries.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra‑curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Master's degree in Film/Cinema and Media Studies, Film, Television, and Media Studies, Drama/Theater, Mass Communication.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's degree in Visual Studies, Media Studies, English, or Communication

    OR the equivalent.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Professional and/or teaching experience in media pre‑production and production, including narrative and/or non‑narrative screenwriting, story development, and hands‑on experience in film, television, or digital media industries.
  • Knowledge of narrative and visual storytelling and the historical and theoretical foundations of film, television, and emerging media, with the ability to analyze and teach how meaning, structure, and cultural context shape screen‑based media.
  • Ability to teach foundational media production concepts, including basic editing workflows and introductory sound design using industry‑standard software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro and/or Adobe Audition).
  • Experience teaching at the postsecondary level, preferably at a community college, with the ability to communicate course content effectively to a diverse student population.
  • Experience with online and hybrid pedagogy, including effective use of learning management systems and instructional technology.
