The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Mathematics, De Anza College.

The Foothill - De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy. All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

1. Practice student-centered and equity-minded pedagogies in accordance with established course outlines and use high-impact strategies that serve all students including underserved and disproportionately impacted students (i.e., Latinx, African Ancestry, Filipinx, Veterans, Foster Youth, Disabled Students, First-Generation Students, LGBTQ+, and Low-income students).

2. Teach community college statistics and mathematics courses to a diverse student population (course range includes algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, differential equations, finite mathematics, and statistics).

3. Collaborate in the development and revision of curriculum.

4. Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which is inclusive and mindful of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.

5. Teach in multiple modalities, including asynchronous/synchronous/hybrid online and in-person courses.

6. Perform standard duties expected of all faculty that include:
  • maintaining scheduled office hours
  • attending department, division, and program meetings
  • keeping abreast of pedagogical and discipline research
  • pursuing professional growth activities
  • participating in activities that enhance the student experience
  • serving on district and/or college committees
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics
  • OR, Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in statistics, physics, or mathematics education

    OR, the equivalent.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Successful candidates will provide evidence of:
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity-minded teaching, eliminating the demographic predictability of educational outcomes through inclusive pedagogy, curriculum design, and assessment practices informed by disaggregated student success, completion, retention, and persistence data across diverse student groups.
  • Commitment to instructional practices that empower students who are historically and currently underrepresented in STEM fields, including culturally responsive teaching strategies and intentional support structures.
  • Recent experience teaching and working with community college students and/or comparable student populations, with demonstrated understanding of their academic, socioeconomic, and life-balance needs.
  • Ability to prepare for and teach all mathematics and statistics courses offered by the department in a manner that conveys enthusiasm for the discipline and fosters curiosity, confidence, and engagement both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Use of a variety of instructional methods that emphasize active learning, cooperation, and collaboration, and that engage students as partners in their own learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on curriculum and program development in both credit and noncredit instruction to enhance instructional quality, coherence, and student success.
  • Ongoing professional growth relevant to community college teaching, including engagement with equity-focused pedagogy, instructional innovation, and evidence-based teaching practices.
