The Foothill - De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy. All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department. This is not a remote position. Schedule includes on-campus and off-campus responsibilities, and may include evening and weekend hours.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Dean of Language Arts, and in collaboration with the Vice President of Workforce Innovation and Economic Advancement, Counseling Division, CTE divisions, and instructional faculty, the Counselor/Coordinator provides comprehensive counseling, advising, and program coordination services for students transitioning from Adult Education, enrolled in corequisite-supported English and ESL courses, and pursuing transfer and career pathways.
The position integrates academic, career, and personal counseling with program coordination, outreach, and retention initiatives designed to improve access, persistence, and completion for disproportionately impacted student populations.

Core Counseling and Advising Responsibilities

The Counselor/Coordinator provides comprehensive counseling services, including:

Orientation and onboarding for Adult Education, EPS, and ESL students

Academic counseling, advising, and educational planning

Career exploration and goal clarification

Assessment services, including transcript evaluation, placement review, and prerequisite clearance

Follow-up counseling and intervention for at-risk students, including use of early alert systems

Crisis intervention and referrals, as appropriate

Services are delivered through multiple modalities, including in-person and online counseling; individual and group appointments; workshops; and other innovative approaches. The assignment may include occasional evening and weekend hours.

Student Support, Transitions, and Retention

The Counselor/Coordinator will:

Support students transitioning from Adult Education into college-level coursework by clarifying academic and career goals, selecting majors, and establishing enrollment priority

Provide sustained, proactive counseling support by monitoring student progress, maintaining ongoing contact, and promoting persistence and timely completion

Address the counseling and advising needs of students in corequisite-supported English and ESL courses

Support student engagement and leadership development by organizing and accompanying students to career, leadership, and enrichment events and conferences

Program Coordination, Collaboration, and Equity-Focused Work

In collaboration with instructional faculty, department chairs, campus programs, and external partners, the Counselor/Coordinator will:
