DESCRIPTION OF THE DE ANZA COLLEGE COMMUNICATION STUDIES PROGRAM:

The Communication Studies Department offers courses in public speaking, intercultural communication, argumentation and rhetorical analysis, critical reasoning in groups, interpersonal communication, performance studies, persuasion, and organizational communication. Our program offers an Associate's Degree, Associate's Degree for Transfer, and Certificate of Achievement. Our courses allow students freedom within the curriculum to meet a variety of needs and goals including general education courses and requirements in a variety of major and certificate programs.

Growth opportunities for the department include development of courses in facilitation, gender communication, and others.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Full-time faculty at De Anza College are expected to work part of their instructional load on campus each quarter and to actively participate in the academic and professional life of the college.

The successful candidate will teach core communication studies courses through the practice of equity, social justice, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Faculty are expected to develop, revise, and integrate curriculum for both credit and noncredit programs, with a commitment to interdisciplinary connections and to supporting the college's goals related to information literacy and global, cultural, social, and environmental awareness.

In alignment with the course outline of record, faculty will develop and implement effective, student-centered teaching methodologies that reflect cultural responsiveness, inclusive pedagogy, informed and constructive feedback, and regular and substantive interaction with students. Faculty will engage in regular assessment of student learning outcomes and program-level outcomes, using disaggregated student success, completion, retention, and persistence data to evaluate equity impacts and to inform instructional and curricular improvements that support diverse student populations.

Faculty are expected to collaborate with colleagues to develop innovative and state-of-the-art approaches to communication pedagogy and to participate in program and curriculum development, including new and emerging instructional models. This includes a demonstrated commitment to diversifying curriculum delivery to meet the evolving needs of students through modalities and pathways such as Credit for Prior Learning, Competency-Based Education, short-term course offerings, Dual Enrollment, and instructional programs serving incarcerated students.
