Job Description

EDMO’s summer team members spend 5-10 weeks connecting with kids, developing leadership skills, and making a positive impact—while wearing wacky costumes and engaging in camp activities. Summer positions offer an opportunity to help kids uncover talents and further develop existing skills. You will pursue your goals and develop transferable professional skills (including problem-solving, classroom management, and coaching).

An EDMO Instructor is responsible for teaching all STEAM and SEL curriculum for kids in TK-8th grades (grade ranges vary by location). They train on EDMO curriculum instruction and lead their assigned group through the camp day, including STEAM curriculum and SEL activities.

Note:

These programs are in-person for summer 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Approaching education with passion and excitement and building positive role model relationships with kids
  • Leading STEAM and SEL curriculum daily with themes varying by week
  • Refining curriculum and adding personal contributions as seen fit
  • Working closely with other staff members to create and participate in camp games, songs, skits, and activities
  • Helping to lead daily kid check-in and check-out procedures
  • Interacting with families in a professional and energetic manner
  • Helping to cultivate healthy self-esteem and a love for learning
  • Ensuring all kids are safe and have a positive experience by diligently following EDMO policies
  • Demonstrating the EDMO Method and SPACE skills (Self-awareness, Problem-solving, Advocacy, Collaboration, and Empathy) in actions and words

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ year experience working with groups of kids or supporting youth programs in school, after-school camps, camps, coaching or similar settings
  • Comfort engaging with kids and helping create a safe, positive environment
  • Ability to work well with a team and communicate respectfully with coworkers and supervisors
  • SELECT SITES:
    Completion or willingness to complete the Instructional Assistant Exam coordinating with academic level required for the position (will waive requirement with proof of Bachelor’s degree with coursework primarily in English, AA degree, or completion of 48 college-level units)
  • Dependable, punctual and able to follow through on commitments
  • Willing to adapt, problem-solve and stay calm in a fast-paced classroom setting

Curriculum-specific experience may include:

  • A science background including biology, chemistry, and physics
  • Basic science lab skills
  • Engineering
  • Enjoys storytelling, performance or creative activities that engage children
  • Teaching credentials, coursework or units towards credentials are a plus
