Job Summary

The role supports faculty in the design and development of courses in all modalities, ensuring engagement and accessibility for a highly diverse student population. The instructional designer works collaboratively with a team to provide technical support for Canvas and other educational technology, administer the learning management system, and stays current with emerging technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Assist faculty in the development and maintenance of technology‑based curricula, recommending best practices for instructional technology.
  • Provide technical assistance to system users and train staff on curriculum support, coding, and related computer systems.
  • Create, convert, and maintain web‑based courses and components across disciplines.
  • Develop and facilitate training on web‑based course development, technology‑mediated instruction, and online delivery.
  • Research and improve instructional delivery methods and operations.
  • Assist faculty in meeting accessibility compliance requirements for online courses.
  • Collaborate with departmental staff and participate in required meetings.
  • Analyze learning needs and develop curriculum to meet student needs.
  • Communicate with district staff, students, and outside agencies to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
  • Assist with assessment efforts, research, and data organization for programs.
  • Coordinate conferences and faculty technology programs.
  • Incorporate multimedia instructional materials using sound design principles.
  • Support learning management system administration, including third‑party integration.
  • Document internal procedures and prepare reports.
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies and improve instructional methods.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Work primarily on‑site with occasional hybrid meetings as required.
  • Qualifications
    • Knowledge of instructional design principles, universal design, user interface design, and andragogy.
    • Understanding of accessibility compliance regulations.
    • Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Moodle.
    • Knowledge of web‑based conferencing, synchronous and asynchronous collaboration tools.
    • Strong customer service skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
    • Proficiency with HTML, word processing, web editing, databases, and spreadsheets.
    • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and district policies.
    Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduated from an accredited four‑year college or university with coursework in educational technology or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • At least two years of experience providing curriculum support with online technologies.
  • Graduate degree in instructional design or equivalent preferred.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Understanding of culturally responsive pedagogies.
    • High comfort level with the Canvas LMS and experience as a Canvas Administrator.
    • Experience with Instructure Impact, Design Plus, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
    • Experience designing using UDL and backward design principles.
    • Comfort managing multiple projects simultaneously.
