The Accountant will be responsible for performing various essential accounting tasks, including month-end closing, financial reporting including variances analyses, and other tasks assigned by the team as well as periodic special projects that occur throughout the year. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Accounting Department who interacts with Sales, Purchasing, and Warehouse operations daily.
This person will work very closely with the Accounting Manager to review all operational procedures and issues and recommend changes, drive process improvements, design workflows, and streamline processes on a continual basis to create a better efficiency in all aspects of the Company.
- Reconcile and analyze balances for various income statement and balance sheet accounts as part of the month-end closing
- As part of monthly closing, be able to adhere to a close deadline while managing other tasks and maintaining good performance of duties
- Maintain the general and sub-ledgers for all balance sheet and income statement accounts, update chart of accounts as necessary
- Calculate journal entries, prepare supporting documentation, and perform account reconciliation
- Perform fixed assets and lease accounting (including ASC 842)
- Prepare monthly management meeting presentations with commentary on trends in financial and operational performance
- Conduct ad hoc analysis to support special projects
- Assist with annual audits, tax compliance matters, forecasts, and other fiscal planning
- Respond to audit requests and preparing the supporting documentation necessary to provide to auditors
- Mentor junior accounting team members and provide back-up to team members, as needed
- Review historical transactions and if errors are encountered, preparing adjusting journal entries to be entered into the system for the accounts to be presented correctly
- Other duties that may be assigned
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting/finance; CPA is a plus
- 2-years’ experience in an accountant role
- Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and internal control measures
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with Great Plains (preferred) or other similar accounting software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrates the ability to manage a variety of priorities while meeting deadlines
- Strong leadership skills including team building and organizational skills
- Experience in wholesale, retail, food services industry is a plus
- Ability to work independently on assigned duties as well as being able to check one’s own work for accuracy and completeness
