A growing organization is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to support cost analysis, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and operational decision-making.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with both finance and operations, understands the details behind product costs and margins, and can turn financial data into clear, useful insights.
The Cost Accountant will play an important role in maintaining accurate cost information, analyzing variances, supporting month-end close, and helping leadership better understand profitability and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and analyze standard costs, inventory costs, and cost-of-goods-sold activity
- Review material, labor, overhead, and production variances
- Support month-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and inventory reporting
- Analyze inventory levels, reserves, write-offs, and cycle-count results
- Partner with operations, supply chain, and finance teams to investigate cost and margin trends
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost-related financial analysis
- Monitor product profitability and identify opportunities to improve margins
- Maintain accurate cost data within the company’s ERP system
- Support internal and external audit requests related to inventory and cost accounting
- Improve cost-accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls
- Prepare ad hoc analysis for finance and operational leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Progressive accounting experience with a strong focus on cost accounting
- Hands‑on experience with inventory accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis
- Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience working with ERP or financial‑reporting systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and operational teams
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, consumer‑products, or other inventory‑based environment
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and margin analysis
- CPA, CMA, or advanced degree is a plus
