Robert Half Management Resources is recruiting for a Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations for a multi-state employee population to support our entertainment client based in Los Angeles, California. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can take ownership of payroll processing, maintain compliance, and deliver accurate results in a fast-paced environment. The role requires strong expertise in end-to-end payroll administration, close collaboration with cross-functional teams, and the ability to manage complex payroll matters with confidence and minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the complete bi-weekly payroll process for approximately 500 employees, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Perform payroll reviews, reconciliations, and validation checks before final submission to maintain data integrity.
- Monitor payroll information for compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Work closely with Human Resources, Finance, and other internal partners to investigate and resolve payroll questions and discrepancies.
- Coordinate payroll funding activities and confirm required accounts are prepared in advance of each processing cycle.
- Oversee payroll activity for employees located across numerous states, including large populations in key operating regions.
- Examine payroll data feeds and system integrations to confirm information is transferring correctly from supporting platforms.
- Maintain organized payroll records and supporting audit documentation for reporting and compliance purposes.
- Support payroll implications related to equity compensation activities, including transaction reviews, reporting, and necessary adjustments.
- Partner with external service providers to reconcile compensation reporting details and address payroll corrections or process improvements.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of payroll experience with direct responsibility for full-cycle processing.
- Strong hands-on experience using Workday for payroll administration.
- Experience with ADP integrations and payroll feeds a plus
- Knowledge of RSUs, stock compensation payroll reporting, and equity-related payroll events strongly preferred.
- Proven background managing payroll for a multi-state workforce.
- Solid knowledge of payroll tax requirements, audit practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience supporting both salaried and hourly employee groups.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and adapt quickly to established workflows.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Entertainment, media, or similarly complex corporate payroll experience preferred
