Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly organized Controller to oversee the accounting, financial reporting, and financial operations for our restaurant group.
The Controller will be responsible for managing accounting procedures, reviewing financial reports, monitoring cash flow, reconciling sales and deposits, overseeing vendor payments, and helping ownership maintain strong financial controls across multiple restaurant locations.
This position is ideal for someone with strong accounting knowledge, restaurant industry experience, and the ability to manage financial systems with accuracy and professionalism.
Responsibilities- Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly accounting operations for restaurant locations
- Review and analyze monthly Profit & Loss statements
- Review Balance Sheet accounts and ensure accuracy of financial records
- Monitor restaurant revenue, expenses, food cost, beverage cost, labor cost, and operating costs
- Reconcile daily POS sales with bank deposits, credit card batches, cash deposits, refunds, comps, and third-party delivery payments
- Review bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations
- Oversee accounts payable, vendor payments, check runs, and ACH payment schedules
- Track recurring monthly payments and maintain organized payment records
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy before payment
- Communicate with vendors regarding balances, credits, invoices, and payment issues
- Manage and review cash deposits and cash handling procedures
- Maintain accurate financial records, reports, and supporting documentation
- Work with Quick Books Online and ensure proper coding of income and expenses
- Review payroll reports and monitor labor cost percentages
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and areas for improved profitability
- Support annual business permit renewals, insurance audits, sales tax records, and CPA requests
- Prepare financial reports and summaries for ownership
- Develop and maintain internal accounting controls and procedures
- Supervise or support bookkeepers, office assistants, and accounting staff as needed
- Ensure accounting processes are consistent across all restaurant locations
- Minimum 5 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or controller-level experience preferred
- Restaurant, hospitality, or multi-location business accounting experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of Quick Books Online
- Experience reviewing Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets
- Experience with POS sales reconciliation and bank deposit reconciliation
Strong understanding of accounts payable, vendor payments, ACH records, and cash flow management - Payroll and labor cost review experience preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Highly organized, reliable, and able to meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with vendors, managers, ownership, CPA, and payroll providers
- Ability to identify discrepancies and resolve financial issues
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and financial reporting tools
- Must be trustworthy, confidential, and professional
- Restaurant accounting experience
