Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Services/Payroll

Lead complex payroll operations for UCLA Health Medical Center employees as a payroll supervisor and technical resource. As the Payroll Supervisor, you will oversee highly complex payroll processing, analysis, reconciliation, and issue resolution across multiple facilities. This role supervises payroll staff, provides subject matter expertise on payroll systems, University of California policies, collective bargaining agreements, payroll controls, and confidential payroll activities, and supports system improvements that promote accurate and timely payroll delivery.

In this role, you will:

* Supervise payroll staff by providing guidance, assigning work, reviewing complex payroll issues, supporting training, and promoting accurate and timely payroll processing.

* Perform and oversee highly complex payroll transactions, including retroactive adjustments, special payments, payroll transfers, leave accrual adjustments, compensatory time, and non-cash awards.

* Process payroll activities across UCLA Health facilities while ensuring compliance with policies, work rules, collective bargaining agreements, and processing deadlines.

* Review payroll reports and queries to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and support accurate UCPath processing.

* Reconcile payroll and accrual discrepancies between UCPath and Health Business Services timekeeping systems.

* Serve as a primary payroll resource for departmental contacts by interpreting payroll policies, procedures, Title and Pay Plans, collective bargaining agreements, and payroll regulations.

* Provide guidance on complex payroll scenarios, exception handling, escalated inquiries, payroll impacts, and payroll calendar coordination.

* Support confidential payroll activities related to labor relations, including payroll data analysis for collective bargaining changes, pay practice evaluations, and contract-related cost impacts.

* Participate in payroll system and timekeeping upgrades, process reviews, documentation updates, training material development, audit controls, secure record maintenance, and cross-functional reporting needs.

Salary Range:

$80,700 to $168,500 annually

Required

* Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* 8 or more years of progressively responsible payroll or financial operations experience.

* Advanced knowledge of payroll processing, timekeeping, leave administration, payroll policies, and payroll regulations.

* Ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements, Title and Pay Plans, institutional policies, and payroll procedures.

* Ability to use enterprise payroll and timekeeping systems effectively, including UCPath and Health Business Services.

* Strong analytical skills to review payroll data, identify discrepancies, reconcile issues, and resolve complex payroll problems.

* Ability to coordinate multiple payroll activities, meet strict processing deadlines, and support payroll calendar requirements.

* Ability to guide payroll staff, support training, review complex payroll scenarios, and promote accountability in payroll operations.

* Strong communication skills to explain payroll concepts clearly to employees, departmental contacts, administrative staff, and cross-functional partners.

* Ability to maintain documentation, internal controls, secure records, confidentiality, and compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements.

Preferred

* Certified Payroll Professional certification is preferred.

* Experience supporting payroll operations in a healthcare or academic environment is preferred.
