It's a busy tax office in the Valley looking after high net worth individuals and closely held businesses. Tax, accounting, business management and consulting all sit under one roof. They want a manager who doesn't need managing.

The spread of returns is wide: individual, LLC, partnership, S corp, corporate, trust, estate, gift and non profit. You'd lead the tax team, run projections and forecasts, and deal with the notices when they land.

• $120,000 to $140,000 plus a performance bonus
• 401(k) with a match, health, vision and life cover
• Very little oversight. They assume you can run your own desk
• Food in the office and a floating personal holiday, which says something about how they treat people
• The honest bits: overtime in tax season is written into the posting, and some of the work is accounting and business management, not tax

• Preparing and reviewing high level partnership, S corp and individual returns
• Planning and consulting for clients who expect an answer, not a memo
• Coordinating the accounting staff and assessing how they're doing
• Research, notices from the tax authorities, and fixing process where it's slow

• CPA or EA
• 6 years of tax experience and a bachelor's degree
• A bookkeeping background is a plus here, which is unusual at this level
