Cost Accounting Manager

Description We are looking for a Cost Accounting Manager to lead product costing activities and provide financial insight that supports manufacturing and operational decisions in Los Angeles, California. This position works closely with finance, operations, supply chain, procurement, and engineering to strengthen cost visibility, improve reporting accuracy, and support sound business planning. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in manufacturing finance, inventory accounting, and cost analysis, along with the ability to turn complex data into practical recommendations.

Responsibilities:

- Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of standard costs for current and newly introduced products, including detailed cost roll-up analysis.

- Partner across finance, operations, procurement, engineering, and supply chain to refine costing methods and strengthen financial reporting processes.

- Review inventory valuation regularly to ensure costing accuracy and alignment with accounting standards and internal controls.

- Evaluate production and manufacturing variances, identify underlying drivers, and recommend actions to improve cost performance.

- Prepare margin reviews, profitability studies, and other cost-based analyses that support pricing and operational decision-making.

- Build financial models and reporting tools that highlight trends, business risks, and opportunities affecting product and manufacturing costs.

- Support inventory reconciliation activities, physical count processes, reserve analysis, and review of excess or obsolete stock exposure.

- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing and operating expenses, including analysis of actual results against plan.

- Produce monthly cost reports and assist with period-end close activities, audit support, and compliance with accounting policies.

- Use ERP and related financial systems, including Net Suite when applicable, to improve data quality, reporting efficiency, and cost accounting processes. Requirements - At least 5 years of experience in cost accounting, manufacturing finance, or a closely related area.

- Hands-on knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, and core cost accounting practices.

- Background in a manufacturing environment; experience in medical device or similar regulated industries is preferred.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with the judgment to translate financial findings into business actions.

- Advanced Excel capabilities and experience creating financial models and detailed cost analyses.

- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail when managing financial data and reporting.

- Clear communication skills with the ability to explain financial information effectively to cross-functional stakeholders.

- Experience working with ERP platforms; familiarity with Net Suite is an advantage.
