Purpose of Your Job PositionReporting to the Director of Accounting, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, month-end close, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, budgets, governmental and tax reporting support, and audit support for assigned nonprofit corporations. Each Senior Accountant is assigned several corporations of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles. The role ensures accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards and provides meaningful financial indicators for assigned corporations.
Position Requirements Qualifications and Education Requirements- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- Five or more years of accounting experience; experience in religious or nonprofit environments is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, non-profit accounting, and financial internal controls.
- Experience in financial statement production, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and donor restricted assets preferred.
- Experience with accounting and billing software, Multiview and Point Click Care preferred.
- Experience in operational and capital budget preparation including business plans preferred.
- Experience in preparing financial and variance analysis.
- Demonstrates excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Access).

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Senior Accountant provides financial and analytical support to Administrators, the Director of Accounting, and other key individuals responsible for the financial health of assigned corporations. The position participates in leadership meetings by presenting financial reports, variance analyses, and narratives explaining each corporation’s financial status. The Senior Accountant prepares bank reconciliations, journal entries, account reconciliations, and recurring financial schedules in accordance with the month-end close process and prepares or supports assigned governmental, tax, regulatory, and compliance filings.

- For corporations with rental arrangements, assist with accurate accounting by working with assigned team members to prepare revenue reports and record revenue journal entries.
