Education Assistant (Full-Time /Non-Exempt) | Japanese American National Museum

The Japanese American National Museum , based in the historic Little Tokyo neighborhood in downtown Los Angeles, is preparing to reopen following a closure for renovation of its Pavilion building. JANM is hiring an Education Assistant to join the Education unit to support the daily scheduling and coordination of the Group Visits Program. This includes the on-site School Visits Program. Duties involve scheduling group visits, outreach visits, volunteer docents and facilitators, preparing materials for daily activities and maintaining group tour schedules in Altru and Google Calendar.

This position works closely with staff, museum volunteers, school teachers and administrators t o ensure smooth execution of group visit programs. Anti-bias and anti-racist teaching must be promoted.

Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum 1 year experience in customer service role. Administrative assistant experience in a non-profit, volunteer-centered organization and experience in an education or customer service role in a museum is strongly preferred. Requires understanding of basic principles of volunteer management. Professional phone and email manners are essential. Knowledge of Japanese American history and culture desired and familiarity with the Little Tokyo community is beneficial.

Proficiency with MS Office and Google Workspace. Familiarity with Asana is beneficial. On-site position, Monday - Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm schedule with occasional evening and/or weekend hours to support events. Criminal background and credit check required. Salary Range: $19.35 to $ 21.20 per hour DOE. EOE. No Paid Relocation.
