Position PurposeAs the Children’s Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in providing wraparound services to minority and low‑income pregnant and postpartum women, their children, and families at the Women’s Residential Rehab Treatment Program in South Los Angeles. Utilizing evidence‑based practices—including Motivational Interviewing, the Nurturing Parenting Program, and Celebrating Families—you will help guide participants toward positive and transformative outcomes.
This position offers essential support to women, children, and families impacted by substance abuse. It requires a strong understanding of child development, trauma‑informed care, substance abuse, and mental health to promote the holistic well‑being of individuals and families.
Principal Responsibilities- Provide case management services for the children of PPW participants, including scheduling and attending medical and dental appointments.
- Coordinate enrollment in off‑site daycare, school, and after‑school programs.
- Develop a daily activity calendar for children residing on the property or visiting their mothers.
- Support mothers in bonding with their children through reading, singing, and play activities.
- Facilitate care coordination for mothers and children transitioning from residential treatment to Recovery Bridge Housing and Intensive Outpatient Services.
- Organize and supervise on‑site childcare during group sessions, counseling, and therapy sessions for mothers.
- Plan and coordinate outings to parks, libraries, and other child‑friendly locations.
- Collaborate with Food Services to review children’s dietary needs and restrictions and ensure appropriate snacks are prepared for on‑site visits.
- Coordinate and oversee weekend and approved mother‑child visits.
- Co‑facilitate Nurturing Parenting, Celebrating Families, and other assigned group sessions.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with community‑based organizations providing relevant services to mothers and children.
- Assist in organizing 4–6 annual family events (on‑site or off‑site).
- Plan and execute quarterly Family Resource Fairs.
- Build and maintain relationships with DCFS (Department of Children and Family Services) social workers.
- Coordinate and supervise virtual or phone contact sessions for children living off‑site.
- Transport clients to children’s court hearings, child visits, and other necessary appointments.
- Maintain and update a community resource referral list.
- Complete documentation in SAGE within 24 hours of service delivery.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports on program activities and outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Two years of experience working in the field of substance abuse with women, children, and their families.
- Must hold at least a BA in a human service field (psychology, social work, counseling) or possess equivalent experience.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
- Registered as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor.
- Culturally competent in working with minority, low‑income, and vulnerable populations.
- Able to work on holidays and other nontraditional workdays and hours.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with clients and team members.
- Understanding of trauma‑informed care principles and their application in substance use treatment.
- Proficiency in Motivational Interviewing, Nurturing Parenting Program, and Celebrating Families methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft programs—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish are preferred.
