Location:

Los Angeles, CA Duration: 12 Months Position Summary The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for providing safety oversight across multiple commercial construction projects. This role ensures contractor compliance with applicable safety regulations, contractual safety requirements, and industry best practices while supporting safe execution of demolition, renovation, and new construction activities.

Key Responsibilities Provide management oversight of construction safety activities across multiple project sites. Monitor contractor compliance with applicable OSHA regulations and project-specific safety requirements. Conduct daily safety inspections and reviews of active construction work to ensure compliance with established safety procedures and industry standards. Monitor compliance with project insurance program safety requirements and related procedures, where applicable. Support the Program Safety Manager by attending meetings, preparing reports, conducting safety analyses, and performing other assigned duties.

Attend project coordination and construction meetings with project teams and contractors. Lead safety discussions, present toolbox talks, communicate site observations, and review upcoming work activities to identify potential hazards and ensure proactive planning. Perform routine construction site safety inspections and prepare daily safety inspection reports. Prepare and submit weekly Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) observation reports. Review contractor safety documentation for completeness and compliance, including:
Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) Methods of Procedure (MOPs) Fall Protection Plans Crane Lift Plans Excavation Plans Scaffold Erection Plans Confined Space Entry Plans Hazard assessments for high-risk activities Review contractor incident reports, participate in incident investigations and safety stand-downs, and document lessons learned. Conduct and document safety orientations for contractor safety representatives. Monitor compliance with safety policies and enforce corrective actions for non-compliant personnel.

Travel between multiple project sites as required. Prioritize daily activities and effectively manage safety oversight across multiple active construction projects. Maintain clear, accurate, and timely written and verbal communication with project stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum 10 years of commercial construction experience in the United States with a General Contractor. Minimum 5 years of construction experience in California with a General Contractor or major subcontractor. Minimum 2 years of experience on educational or institutional campus construction projects. Strong experience managing field construction teams across multiple projects.

Experience with demolition, renovation, modernization, and new construction projects. Experience working on Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP) or similar construction insurance programs. Active certification in one of the following:
Safety Management Specialist (SMS) – BCSP Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) – BCSP Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) – NASP Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Experience with hazardous materials abatement and remediation projects, including asbestos, lead-based paint, hazardous waste handling, and environmental remediation. Strong experience working with executive leadership, project management teams, and field personnel on large, multi-site construction programs. Experience participating in regular construction meetings with contractors and project managers. Strong experience preparing daily safety reports, incident reports, and project safety documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with owners, construction management teams, contractors, and field personnel.

Ability to manage, document, and report safety incidents in accordance with OSHA regulations and project requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and standard construction documentation software.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Safety Management, Safety Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Additional construction safety certifications or professional credentials. Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification. Current OSHA 500 – Trainer in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry. Experience supporting large, complex, multi-site capital construction programs.
