About Your Role

The Construction Inspector is responsible for conducting comprehensive field inspections across airport building and terminal construction projects. This position ensures that construction activities are completed in accordance with approved contract documents, applicable building codes, safety regulations, LAWA requirements, and project‑specific standards.

The Construction Inspector will monitor daily field activities, document construction progress, identify deficiencies and safety concerns, review project documentation, verify completed work, and coordinate with contractors, engineers, testing agencies, and project stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of large‑scale building construction, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to independently interpret plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and other construction documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of building, terminal, and related airport construction activities.
  • Verify that work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, contract requirements, building codes, safety regulations, and LAWA proprietary standards.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, submittals, requests for information, change orders, and other contract documents.
  • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports that clearly document the who, what, when, where, and how of observed construction activities.
  • Accurately document project progress, contractor activities, labor and equipment, completed quantities, deficiencies, safety concerns, and corrective actions.
  • Identify construction deficiencies and nonconforming work and communicate findings to the appropriate contractor and project representatives.
  • Monitor corrective work and verify that identified deficiencies are resolved in accordance with project requirements.
  • Support special inspection and material‑testing activities by coordinating with engineers, contractors, laboratories, and third‑party inspection agencies.
  • Track and document time‑and‑material work, field changes, extra work, and installed job quantities when assigned.
  • Measure and verify completed work for accuracy and compliance with approved contract documents.
  • Assist with the review and validation of contractor progress‑payment requests based on approved schedules of values and verified work in place.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with local jurisdictional requirements, Los Angeles building codes, ADA requirements, and airport‑specific standards.
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic inspection records using applicable project management and document‑control systems.
  • Communicate inspection findings, construction issues, scheduling concerns, and potential impacts to project leadership.
  • Coordinate inspection activities with contractors, consultants, engineers, airport representatives, and other project stakeholders.
  • Perform work in active airport and terminal environments while complying with all applicable operational, security, and safety procedures.
