RACAIA Inc. is seeking an energetic, proactive, and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Job Captain
. The ideal candidate will have strong technical architectural experience and a demonstrated background working on California Division of the State Architect (DSA) projects
.
A minimum of four (4) years of direct DSA project experience is required for this position. Candidates without at least four years of DSA experience will not meet the minimum qualifications for this role.
The Job Captain will work closely with RACAIA’s project managers, architects, consultants, and clients to support projects from design and documentation through DSA review, construction, and closeout. The position requires a strong understanding of architectural documentation, consultant coordination, California building requirements, and the DSA approval and construction process.
Required Experience & Qualifications- 6–10+ years of professional architectural experience after graduation is preferred. Internship experience is valued but does not count toward the required professional experience.
- Minimum 4+ years of direct, hands-on experience working on DSA-regulated projects is mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and coordinating DSA submittal and approval packages
, including construction documents and supporting documentation. - Strong working knowledge of the DSA plan review, approval, construction, and closeout processes
. - Experience with K–12, community college, or other California public education projects under DSA jurisdiction is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in drawing set development, Construction Documents, permitting/agency coordination, and Construction Administration.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam is required. Experience with additional visualization and Adobe Creative Suite applications is a plus.
- Strong understanding of consultant coordination, including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and other disciplines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with project managers, consultants, clients, contractors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and document-control skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining drawing and documentation quality.
- Architectural licensure in California, or active progress toward licensure, is a plus but not required.
- Serve as a day-to-day project coordinator and work closely with RACAIA’s project managers and architectural leadership to support successful project delivery.
- Prepare, develop, and coordinate architectural drawing sets from design development through Construction Documents.
- Support and coordinate DSA submissions, plan review comments, back-checks, approvals, addenda, CCDs, RFIs, and other DSA-related documentation as applicable.
- Coordinate architectural documents with structural, MEP, civil, landscape, technology, and other project consultants.
- Review consultant documents for consistency, completeness, and coordination with architectural drawings.
Maintain RACAIA drawing standards and assist in delivering accurate, coordinated, and high-quality Construction Documents. - Participate in Construction Administration, including review of RFIs, submittals, field conditions, and construction-related documentation.
- Assist project teams with DSA construction-phase requirements and project closeout documentation
. - Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders while tracking project deliverables and deadlines.
- Produce drawings, diagrams, presentations, and other materials required for client meetings, agency reviews, and project coordination.
Because RACAIA works extensively on projects governed by the California Division of the State Architect
, prior DSA experience is an essential qualification for this position.
Applicants must have at least four (4) years of verifiable professional experience working directly on DSA projects. This is a minimum requirement, not a preferred qualification.
