The NHMLAC is seeking a Counselor, Adventures in Nature for our Education & Programs department. The Counselor, Adventures in Nature position is responsible for assisting in developing, implementing and supervising recreational programs offered through the Adventures in Nature Day Camp.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

* Assists Instructor in the planning and facilitation of a creative schedule of activities for campers, using a pre-developed curriculum. Activities revolve around a natural or cultural history theme and include crafts, games and free time.

* Supervises children during lunch periods and coordinates games and activities to keep them safe and entertained for this period.

* Assists instructors in teaching and other classroom activities as needed. Helps assemble supplies for classes.

* Supervises campers enrolled in extended care (morning and/or late afternoon) and coordinates games and activities to keep them safe and entertained for this period.

* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager, Public Programs dependent on organizational needs.

This position has the following requirements:

* A welcoming and personable attitude and the ability to interact effectively with children of all ages, their families, staff and other Museum visitors.

* Experience working alongside staff with diverse backgrounds and serving diverse audiences.

* Ability to plan and lead games and activities for elementary and middle school children.

* Ability to relate to and communicate easily and effectively with children and adults.

* Previous experience with summer camps or another informal learning environment with children and a general interest in natural history preferred.

* High school diploma, GED and/or previously participated in the Adventures in Nature program. College or graduate students majoring in education, liberal studies, child development or museum studies preferred.

The hourly rate for this position is $20.75 an hour with excellent benefits. This is a full-time temporary, non-exempt position. The anticipated end date is August 11, 2026.
