University Christian Church (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is a Word and gospel-centered, multiethnic church community located in the Los Angeles community of Ladera Heights. We passionately worship and serve the Triune God with heart, soul, mind, and strength. We aim to radiate Christian love to those within our community, as well as to passionately and intentionally present the message of the cross to our community and broader city.
We seek an Associate Pastor who can share in the work of shepherding, equipping, teaching, and leading the flock at UCC.
The Associate Pastor is responsible for supporting the Senior Pastor in leadership, spiritual direction, and ministry. The Associate Pastor will assist with preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and leadership development, serving the congregation and community.
Key Responsibilities- Preaching & Teaching
- Assist in preaching and leading worship services as directed by the Senior Pastor.
- Teach Bible studies, courses, or small groups.
- Preach or lead services in the absence of the Senior Pastor.
- Prepare and deliver Biblically faithful (mostly) expository sermons.
- Pastoral Care
- Provide pastoral counseling and support to church members and families.
- Visit congregants in hospitals, homes, and care facilities.
- Officiate weddings, baptisms, and funerals as needed.
- Provide care and support during times of crisis or significant life events.
- Establish systems of care and support for aging congregants.
- Ministry Leadership
- Assist in overseeing and leading specific ministries or programs (e.g., Men’s ministry, worship, adult ministries, small groups, outreach).
- Collaborate with the church leadership team to ensure ministry goals align with the church direction.
- Train, mentor, and support volunteers and leaders in various ministries.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of church events and activities.
- Help develop and implement church policies and procedures.
- Assist with budget planning and management for assigned ministries.
- Outreach & Evangelism
- Participate in outreach programs to engage and grow the church community.
- Encourage church members to participate in mission trips, community service, and local evangelism.
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Senior Pastor, staff, and lay leaders to promote church unity and vision.
- Attend staff meetings, planning sessions, and training events.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Ministry, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 3‑5 years of ministry experience, including preaching and pastoral care.
- Skills:
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to preach and teach with clarity, power, and accuracy.
- Ability to preach in an expository fashion.
- Competence in pastoral counseling and emotional support.
- Organizational and time‑management skills.
- Must meet the qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
- A deep love and commitment to Christ, Scripture, the church's mission, and health.
- Solid theological and philosophical alignment.
- A track record of operating with honesty, integrity, and being a positive example.
- Ability to relate, work, and lead in a diverse ministry environment (ethnically, class-wise, generationally, and theologically).
- A servant‑leader attitude with a passion for ministry and outreach.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships within the church.
- A heart for pastoral care and willingness to serve in various aspects of ministry.
- Will work primarily within the church building but will also be required to visit members in homes, hospitals, and community centers.
- Flexible hours may be required, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate church services, meetings, and events.
- $70 k+
