Provides leadership in the administration of a major multi-disciplinary instructional area, including resource development and personnel management, in accordance with laws, District policy and collective bargaining agreements.
Formulates and develops long- and short-range goals and strategic plans for the instructional area, ensuring alignment with college and district plans; develops curricula and educational philosophy.
Develops and implements plans and policies to facilitate curricula, programs and services; maintains instructional standards of quality.
Supervises course development, reviews and updates courses, maintains current course outlines including online courses.
Plans and prepares class schedules, room and instructor assignments, and class sections across various time frames.
Manages annual instructional area budget; monitors expenditures; maintains records and reports related to personnel, facilities, programs and activities.
Determines equipment and supply needs; submits textbook lists and materials; oversees inventory control.
Streams outreach activities and serves as liaison with local high schools and community agencies to promote enrollment and program effectiveness.
Maintains communication with administrators, faculty and staff to resolve conflicts and coordinate division activities.
Trains, supervises, evaluates and directs staff; participates in hiring processes; arranges staff development and onboarding.
Organizes and chairs meetings; participates in committees; oversees special projects or programs.
Keeps up-to-date with instructional methods and technologies; applies new tools as needed to perform duties efficiently.
Promotes inclusive practices and demonstrates sensitivity to diverse backgrounds among students and staff.
Leads diversity and equity initiatives and supports growth of a diverse student and employee population.
Performs related duties as assigned. May participate in development and administration of external funding sources from grants and sponsor ships.
Working RelationshipsThe Dean maintains frequent contact with college and District administrators, faculty and staff.
