Position Overview

The Learning Studio Design Lead is the pedagogical architect and steward of Milken’s Learning Studios across grades 6–12. This role advances a coherent, values-driven approach to studio-based learning that integrates design, inquiry, and creative problem-solving across disciplines, making student thinking visible through cycles of iteration, collaboration, and meaningful creation.

Working in close partnership with the Director of Educational Technology, Division Heads, Department Chairs, and the Curriculum & Integration team, the Learning Studio Design Lead ensures that studio-based learning is developmentally appropriate across grades 6–12, integrated into core academic courses, accessible to diverse learners, ethically grounded, and visible through exhibitions and public work.

The Learning Studio Design Lead teaches up to two courses and is responsible for the pedagogical design, instructional use, and learning culture of designated design lab spaces (excluding the Guerin Lab and the Milken East fabrication lab). The position reports to the Director of Educational Technology.

Responsibilities Studio-Based Learning Design (Grades 6-12)
  • Design and pilot studio-based learning experiences that integrate design, inquiry, and creative problem-solving across disciplines
  • Develop developmentally appropriate pathways that make student thinking visible and support diverse learners
  • Ensure studio experiences culminate in meaningful public work, exhibitions, or demonstrations of learning
Faculty Partnership & Instructional Coaching
  • Partner with teachers through co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, and reflective feedback
  • Support interdisciplinary project design aligned with core academic goals
  • Design and facilitate professional learning related to studio pedagogy, project-based learning, and thoughtful integration of emerging tools
Educational Stewardship of Design Labs
  • Lead the pedagogical vision, instructional use, and learning culture of designated design lab spaces (excluding the Guerin Lab and the Milken East fabrication lab)
  • Establish clear norms and safety practices that enable creative risk-taking and responsible use of tools and materials
  • Align studio environments with Milken’s mission and values
Ethical Innovation & Emerging Tools
  • Guide faculty and students in responsible, values-aligned use of AI and other emerging technologies
  • Develop shared expectations and practices that support intellectual integrity, kavod habriyot, and areivut in digital and physical spaces
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice to remain current with emerging educational technologies
Teaching & Community Engagement
  • Teach up to two courses aligned with school priorities and candidate expertise
  • Contribute to exhibitions and school-wide programs that showcase studio learning
  • Participate in faculty meetings, assemblies, back-to-school nights, admissions events, and other community gatherings
  • Engage actively in the life of the school community
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, engineering, computer science, design, educational technology, or a related field required
  • Demonstrated excellence as a classroom teacher; experience with middle school students preferred
  • Experience coaching teachers through co-planning, modeling, observation, feedback, and reflective practice
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot common technology issues and support students in responsible device care
  • Strong classroom management skills that support safe, creative, and productive studio environments
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex ideas clearly for students, families, and colleagues
  • Strong project management skills, including managing multiple initiatives, setting priorities, and following through reliably
Standard On-Campus Hours
  • Start: M - F by 8 AM
  • End: M
    -Th 4 PM, F 3:00 PM
  • All schedules are subject to change.
Salary Range

$75,000 - $95,000 annually
