Anticipated NeedsAll part-time faculty appointments are temporary and do not confer academic rank. Final determination of part-time teaching assignments is contingent upon student enrollment figures and funding. In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours and participation in assessment of student learning. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department.
SalaryRates listed are for full-time faculty. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the salary schedule are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
- Rank 2 base salary: $5,507. Teaching 3 units (0.20 timebase) = $1,101 per month. Semester salary: $6,608.
- Rank 3 base salary: $6,221. Teaching 3 units (0.20 timebase) = $1,244 per month. Semester salary: $7,465.
- To teach within the bachelor’s degree program: bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in Recreation, Tourism Management, Hospitality Management, Recreational Sport Management or closely related field.
- To teach within the master’s degree program: master’s degree required;
Ph.D. preferred in a related field; or a bachelor’s degree with previous graduate-level teaching performance and at least 15 years of professional experience in Tourism Management, Hospitality Management, or Recreation Management. - Broad professional experience in recreation/leisure services in course area(s) to be taught.
- Evidence of experience indicating knowledge of recreation and human services agencies.
- Evidence of effective teaching experience at a college or university, preferably in the subject to be taught.
- Applicants without previous teaching experience must submit three (3) letters of recommendation addressing reasons to expect effective teaching.
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to teach a diverse student population and work effectively with a diverse community of faculty and staff.
- Record of academic preparation and research relevant to course areas(s) to be taught.
- Knowledge of assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Applicants interested in teaching outdoor recreation courses must have specific expertise in outdoor recreation skill and knowledge related to class. Courses that may be deployed in backcountry types of outdoor recreation where access to EMS is limited/non-existent must hold current certification in Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or obtain prior to instruction.
- New criterion for 25-26 and beyond:
Applicants interested in teaching courses using an online modality are strongly encouraged to complete a CSU level 1 (Introduction to Teaching Online) Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) course. Additional QLT level 2 (Review) and level 3 (Advanced) are also encouraged for those with a level 1 or extensive online teaching experience already. Evidence of QLT course completion will be used to qualify applicants for certain courses that use an online modality.
