HS Intro to Worship Arts and Worship Arts Instructor Part Time, Exempt

Reports to:

High School Principal and Director of Fine Arts Education/Experience Required/Preferred: A four-year education degree is required. Master’s Degree in educational field and/or teaching credential is preferred. Background/experience in leading worship in a church setting preferred.

Salary Range: $15,000 - $20,000/year (The salary is the expected range and is dependent on candidate qualifications.)

General Responsibilities

This position provides classroom instruction to high school students in the area of Worship Arts. Under the supervision of the HS Principal and Director of Fine Arts this teacher is responsible for teaching beginning/intermediate instruction in the following instruments: keyboard, guitar, bass, drums and vocals, as well as lead the students through a Worship Arts themed book with group discussions. This instructor is responsible for leading and developing the worship team in order to prepare them to lead their peers in worship for weekly chapels and student retreats.

This instructor will work with administration, Director of Fine Arts, Performing Arts department, and students to assure a positive and excellent experience for students and successful public performances. Each teacher at Village Christian School will incorporate into their teaching a worldview that is distinctly Christian and will also demonstrate excellent teaching, learning, thinking, and expression.

It is also expected that a teacher has scholarly abilities in the area in which they teach, and that each teacher will diligently work toward providing a CAREing, Christ-centered education producing students who thrive. Each classroom teacher is accountable to the chair of his/her department, the Principal, and ultimately the Head of School.

Course Management

Teach the assigned sections
- Introduction to Worship Arts and Worship Arts

HS Introduction to Worship Arts
- This class is designed to develop musical skills for students interested in being in the Worship Arts class. They will learn basic chords and music skills in their instrument of choice, as well as earn Bible credit. This class will observe the Worship Arts Class and may occasionally perform with them. Performance during chapel time may be part of this course, during times selected by the instructor as the class develops.

They will also earn a Bible credit by reading the assigned book and participating in class discussions.

HS Worship Arts
- This class is designed to develop musical skills for students who will be leading worship for their peers in weekly chapels and student retreats. Each student is expected to come in with at least an intermediate level of skill in their instrument. They will also earn a Bible credit by reading the assigned book and participating in class discussions.

Attend rehearsals and performances, actively participating in assisting students in sectional and whole group rehearsals

  • Assign equipment/instrument responsibilities to students
  • Maintains organization plan for each assigned course (subject matter outline, daily lesson plans, etc.)
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Adheres to course outline as indicated in the curriculum and enriches curriculum when possible
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments and provide appropriate feedback on work in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
  • Responsible to prepare grade reports, progress reports, and attendance reports in accordance with school policy
